Does your Business Name Reflect what you Sell?
Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
First you have to decide what it is you sell. Your business will be most successful if you can focus on one general item.
- Ex. Tutus and hair accessorizes (both for children) are fine, but tutus and vinyl boards are not similar. You are going to confuse your customers if you sell too much variety.
Next, pick a name that goes with what you sell.
- Ex. I chose Images by Krys because I help my customers create a professional business image. A starting point can be what you sell tied with your name, first or last.
Want to take it a step further?
Once you have an idea of what you would like it to be start checking to see if your domain name is available. Here is a list of some Domain Companies. Purchase only a .com name you won’t need anything more (or hosting). They’ll try to sell you more things but you only need the domain name.
Also keep in mind don’t use any hyphens – or underscores _. No one wants to type those in, or any really long names. Ex. www.carlasnecklaceshop.com is maybe even a bit long. Try not to use words like shop, because that is more your customer has to type in to get to your website. Don’t be afraid to pull up Microsoft Word and check out some synonyms for some words.
Also your business will be taken more seriously if you can get a e-mail with your domain name. Ex. info@yourwebsite.com If you do want this then you may purchase this e-mail hosting from your Domain Company.
